Dendritic cells are professional antigen-presenting cells, playing an important role in inducing inflammatory or tolerogenic responses based on their subtypes and environmental factors. They are now considered as the starting point of innate and adaptive immune responses. Mounting evidence supports that dendritic cells contribute to the pathogenesis of many autoimmune diseases and thus may serve as a potential therapeutic intervention.
Dendritic cells show high heterogeneity and recent advances in single-cell technologies have significantly improved our understanding of the classification and activation status of dendritic cells. Furthermore, emerging immunotherapies targeting dendritic cells have been developed. A better understanding of dendritic cells may lead to the development of potential clinical benefits. In this special issue, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of immunobiology of dendritic cells from basic to translational and clinical aspects.
We welcome high quality manuscripts from diverse fields such as physiological and pathophysiological roles of dendritic cells, novel approaches to treat immune disorders by targeting dendritic cells.
