About the Special lssue

Immunology is often cited as a recent discipline that has been at the forefront of biology through biotechnological innovations in human and animal health. In many situations, the modern framework of systems biology to approach living phenomena finds examples in immunology. This is so much true that immunology itself, because it is everywhere, is in danger of losing its own identity. Immunology has also invented the collaborative framework for sharing experience, experimental resources and now bioinformatics resources in the dual form of data and computational tools. Immunology is at the crossroad of data-driven evidence: All the way from genetic contribution to immunology to decision making in care management, bioinformatics has become crucial. Immunology is also a fertile field for developing new tools and resources in bioinformatics because it often engages more than one individual player: host and pathogens in infections, donor and recipients in transplantation, the evolving distinction between self and non-self in immune system devilment evolution and learning.

In this special issue of Exploring Immunology, we want to address how bioinformatics tools are essential for structuring data resources and implementing algorithms. These tools have often become essential for cutting-edge science, whether bioinformatics tools or data resources are transforming basic science or have direct application in translational science. The editorial board therefore welcomes contributions, concepts, and solutions including new ideas for presenting or organizing data resources in immunology, as well as validation of a bioinformatics data processing pipeline that could be transferred to other situations and the translational application of bioinformatics in immunology in general.
