    About the Special Issue

Background: Recent advancements in neuroscience have increasingly highlighted the importance of glial cells, once considered merely supportive elements, in orchestrating neural circuits and information processing within the brain. The intricate crosstalk between glia and neurons has become crucial to brain function and dysfunction. Moreover, mitochondria, the cell's powerhouse, have garnered significant attention for their multifaceted roles in energy metabolism, calcium homeostasis, and cell signaling within neurons and glial cells.

The special issue focuses on the intricate relationship between glial cells, neurons, and mitochondrial dynamics. It aims to bring together experts, researchers, and scholars from around the globe to delve into the forefront of neuroscience research, particularly emphasizing the pivotal role of glia-neuron interactions and the significance of mitochondria in neural function. We invite submissions of original research, review articles, and case studies exploring the intersection of neuroscience, glia-neuron crosstalk, and mitochondrial dynamics. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

    • Molecular signaling pathways mediating glia-neuron interactions

    • Influence of glial cells on synaptic transmission and plasticity

    • Role of mitochondria in neuroinflammation and neuroprotection

    • Mitochondrial dysfunction in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's disease

    • Novel therapeutic strategies targeting glial cells and mitochondria for neurological conditions

    • Molecular mechanisms of glia-neuron communication

    • Impact of glial dysfunction on neuronal health and disease

    • Role of mitochondria in synaptic plasticity and neurotransmission

    • Mitochondrial dynamics in glial cells and neurons

    • Neurodegenerative diseases and mitochondrial dysfunction
