The practice of Pediatric Allergy has some peculiarities when compared to that of adults. Allergic diseases usually begin in infancy or childhood and progress throughout the life-span in a way known as the atopic march. Early identification of disease is essential, preventive intervention to halt their onset and progression as well. Allergies are resultant of genetic predisposition and environmental exposure to allergenic agents, pollutants, infections to mention a few. Clinical manifestations, severity, and comorbidities have differences among children. There are limitations of diagnostic procedures and evidences of efficacy and safety of medications in the young. Advances in understanding pathophysiology, the burden of diseases to patients and their caregivers, the role of new biologics, are among special features in children.
As children are not simply small adults we hope your contribution will promote this special issue of EAA with particular aspects of allergies in that age group.
