About the Special lssue

Asthma is a complex, multifactorial disease that may originate early in life through interactions of genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors such as maternal smoking, air pollution, early-life viral infections, and alterations in the infant microbiome. In children, asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases and, when poorly controlled or severe, can significantly affect quality of life. Early diagnosis, accurate phenotyping and endotyping of the disease, and tailored treatments are crucial to achieve good control and improve long-term outcomes. For children with moderate to severe or poorly controlled asthma, biologic therapies are promising, but more research is needed, especially in the pediatric population. This special issue aims to focus on all these aspects and on current research such as biomarkers and innovative treatments.
